Winchester's "The Shotgun & Rifle Gang"
Sire: Can. Ch. Chuchinka's Pathfinder Dam: North Wapiti's Whinny at Nanook
Born: June 7, 2006 2 males, 3 females
We combined Whinny & Chester's name for this litter and came up with Winchester. Since Winchester is a gun manufacturing company, we decided to go with Shotgun and Rifle related names for the pups.

This litter seemed like it was an idea one day and happening the next. Chester was visiting with Doug & Donna Finner, while Karen Ramstead was away in Alaska preparing for another Iditarod. When I began kicking around ideas of what I might plan for this year's litters, Kim & Kelly Berg suggested using Chester while he was here. I waited for Karen to return from the Iditarod to ask what her thoughts were...as originally I was going to use Glass for this litter, but Whinny seemed like a better fit for Chester. I was lucky enough that Doug and Donna brought Chester to Whinny for a week long romance. This is Chester's first litter at 9.5 years old and he seemed very smitten with Whinny while they were together. So without the cooperation, ideas, insight and generosity of Karen Ramstead, Doug & Donna Finner, along with Kim & Kelly Berg, this litter might not have happened. I'm forever grateful to them all.
As far as Whinny's delivery, well that is another story in itself. It's was a long few days with Whinny showing beginning signs of labor pains, but she delivered five healthy pups. Her first due date was June 5th and of course I am off work Saturday, Sunday and Mondays, so I was hoping for a Monday delivery. Of course things never go as planned. Whinny was in hard labor on Wednesday morning, a day I had to work and so did Mike. So off to work we both went, Whinny and I that is! I was able to check on her quite frequently throughout the day and hoping that Whinny would hold off until I was able to get out of work and get her home comfortably that night. But by 3pm she really looked close to delivery... Luckily I work with a great group of people... When her water broke about 3:10pm... the girls all said, "Take her home" :) I'm very grateful for having such understanding co-workers about this crazy mushing life I lead.
Well I must have did about 65 mph on the back roads to get home quick as poor Whinny took every bump with grace but seemed to pace even more. Let's just say my lead foot didn't beat the clock of nature! Yep! About 5 minutes from home I had to pull over and deliver a pup on the side of the road in the back of my truck. She did awesome... She wasn't nervous about her surroundings at all, me on the other hand kept thinking, what will people think if they drive by?? I felt like the woman who couldn't get to the hospital on time for the delivery!
After days of labor signs, Whinny is at least a fast whelper and was done by 6:30pm with 4 pups, well so I thought. Around 8:30pm, the proud human mother was sending out photos of the 4 pups and heard a yelp in the whelping box. There was another pup! Whinny delivered another girl.
This litter has just been eventful from the start. Hopefully it is a sign that they will grow up to be an amazing bunch! Thanks again, to all who made this possible!
